New Coda EV goes into production
EV startup Coda Automotive has been busier than a motorcycle cop on the LA Freeway at rush hour. Last week the company threw a bash to open its new headquarters in Los Angeles, with California Governor Jerry Brown there to cut the ribbon and the rubber chicken. On Tuesday it announced that the new all-electric Coda sedan has gone into production.
The four-door, five-passenger sedan, which will be shown off at this month’s LA Auto Show, sports a UQM PowerPhase electric motor with 134 hp and 221 lbs-ft of torque, and a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack that’s integrated into the bottom of the chassis. It claims to have a range of up to 150 miles, a charging time of six hours on a 220-volt level-two charger, and an electronically limited top speed of 85 mph.
We’ve heard no mention of a definite delivery date, but Coda is already taking orders on its web site. The base price is $39,900, and the company offers a three-year warranty on the car, and a ten-year warranty on the battery.
