Peugeot wins order for 3000 iOn EVs
Vehicle fleets in France are going electric tout de suite. UGAP, an organization that makes large-scale purchases for various French government agencies and private firms, has placed an order with automaker Peugeot for 3,000 of the company’s iOn EVs, to be delivered over four years. The cars will go to various public/private outfits, including electric utility Électricité de France and garbage hauler Veolia.
The French procurement association has been spreading its custom around – this contract follows one announced last week to buy 15,000 Kangoo Express ZE electric vans from Renault.
The Peugeot iOn is a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, a 5-door hatchback with a 16 kwh lithium-ion battery and a 63 hp electric motor. The latest order is bonnes nouvelles for Peugeot – together with 2,500 orders already on the books, the company is now looking good to meet its EV sales projections for 2011.
